Crime in London

moove2london on 22 Oct 2009

London’s crime rate is probably one of the many things you’ll take into consideration when moving here. Although our area guides on our North London, South London, East London and West London pages can provide detailed information on estate agents, popular pubs and bars, restaurants and transport links, Moove2London has now come across an interesting tool which helps work out whether or not the area of your choice is a little bit ‘rough around the edges’.

The National Policing Improvement Agency, or NPIA, has a crime mapping website called Crime Mapper which allows you to enter a postcode or general area into a search box and a list of crime statistics for the area will be returned. You’re able to view the number of reported crimes in the last 3 months and break these down into crime types such as burglaries, robberies, vehicle crimes, violence and anti-social behaviour.

Whilst this tool is useful, you really shouldn’t depend on it completely. There’s no denying that crime rates will often be higher in capital cities than in the rest of the country, but try and take this information with a pinch of salt or it’ll put you off living in one of the best cities in the world.
